iPhone Configuration Utility

It's always been clear that iTunes (at least for Windows) is ridiculously awful. It's not just that iTunes uses 100% of the CPU (and is still incredibly slow), but also I don't understand how it works. Authorizing computers? I thought the limit was on the number of devices that could play the audio. Is the tail wagging the dog? If I download content, via the App Store, directly to my iPhone, why does it get synced over to iTunes? Shouldn't iTunes talk to the App Store to know what I bought? I simply don't understand the big picture here.

In fact, generally, I never have to use iTunes. Except to upgrade iOS and to side load apps. (We are software developers.) Usually, my iPad is completely stand alone. That's the way it should be. It talks to the network directly. Why should it ever need to sync? My Android devices upgrade everything over the air. What's wrong with Apple that they can't figure that out?

I haven't upgraded iOS. Thus, I have no reason to sync. Except I need to side load an app. It's so much easier to develop on Android. iTunes makes using Apple products such a chore.

Have you tried the iPhone Configuration Utility? Wow! Solves the problem in a straight forward fashion. The iPhone Configuration Utility lets me side load apps without using iTunes. I understand how it works, it's fast, and it doesn't kill my computer. I highly recommend it.

The iPhone Configuration Utility makes us appreciate just how awful iTunes really is. I knew it was bad. Now that I can compare to something better, I see that iTunes is much worse still. Clearly it's time for Apple to throw away iTunes and start over.
