GreenDimes.com is a winner

You have spam blockers for email and do-not-call lists for telephone but nothing for U.S. Postal mail. Junk mail in my U.S. Postal mail box is just as annoying as spam in my email box, yet I didn't see that anything could be done about it. Sure I could call each catalog company, service company, and charity that sends me mail, but I don't have the time for that, so the junk mail kept on coming.

My sister turned me on to GreenDimes.com, a subscription service that claims to reduce the amount of snail mail you receive in your physical mail box. I signed up for $20/year, and followed their instructions. I had to enter the names of the catalogs that arrived. I had to mail in postcards that they sent me. And I had to follow up personally with a few junk mailers that don't cooperate. The warn you that it will take a while for the results to show.

Several months later, the results are terrific. The volume of mail in my mail box is dramatically reduced. I didn't count, but it seems that GreenDimes.com eliminated maybe 80%-90% of my junk mail. I am very happy.

Now if I could stop the circulars from the local supermarkets. Maybe I'll start a petition drive, get everybody on the route to sign it, then convince the supermarkets to stop sending them.
