Skype adds Callier*ID

For the longest time, Skype didn't support sending Caller*ID. Seemed silly that they didn't offer it, but they went forever without doing so.

Now they offer Caller*ID. You'd think they would have let me know that they started offering the feature. I don't know how long they have been offering it, but now I'm signed up.

Even better, they let you specify a number other than your SkypeIn number. I am sending my mobile phone number as my Skype Caller*ID. They send SMS to my phone to let me know it's been configured, but they don't seem to have any security measures in place. I wonder what happens if I specify a land line that can't receive SMS.

Now, I call people, they get my mobile number, and they call me back on my mobile phone.

I get a side benefit: I can pick up my mobile phone voice mail now without having to enter my PIN. I call my mobile number, it sees the Caller*ID, assumes it's me, and puts me directly into message retrieval. Very convenient.

Does it also point out a huge security flaw? What keeps me from configuring somebody else's phone number, calling that number, and hearing their messages?
